As part of Women’s History Month, the NIU School of Theatre and Dance will be performing scenes titled “Sisterhood Stories: Strong Female Voices in Theatre” at the DeKalb Area’s Women’s Center, March 10 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
This is the second year that the School of Theatre and Dance and the DeKalb Area Women’s Center have collaborated, following the performance of “A Song for Coretta” last year.
“Sisterhood Stories” consists of fabulous female excerpts from NIU’s season of plays. Works performed are from writers like Euripides, Shakespeare, Tennessee Williams and more. Excerpts and scenes will be performed from: “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide / When the Rainbow is Enuf”, “The Rainmaker”, and “As You Like It.” Peek into the world of a desperate depression era mother and daughter in “The Glass Menagerie”; hear from turn of the century female students fighting for the right to graduate in “Blue Stockings”; learn life lessons from ladies of the quaint New Hampshire town of Grover’s Corners in “Our Town”; witness the drama among housemates in a modern day intentional midwestern commune in “Intentions”; and commiserate with the surviving losers of the Trojan War while they await their new lives of slavery and subordination in “Trojan Women”.
Enjoy a relaxed afternoon or evening of strong female voices from a sampling spanning centuries of theatre. NIU School of Theatre and Dance presents “Sisterhood Stories: Strong Female Voices in Theatre” at the DeKalb Area Women’s Center on Saturday, March 10. Matinee performance is at 2 p.m. and evening curtain at 7 p.m. A talk-back with the cast follows each performance. Admission is $5 at the door. Free parking is available in the 11th Street lot one-half block south of the 1021 State Street building.
