Liam Teague’s faculty recital is an all-star affair, and fittingly, a fundraiser for the NIU Steelpan Program. Teague, professor of music, director of steelpan studies and NIU Distinguished Research, Scholarship and Artistry Professor, has enlisted the help of friends old and new for “The Magic of the Steelpan,” November 6 at 5 p.m. in the NIU Recital Hall.

Teague will be joined by a number of special guests, including climate flutist Marie Bennett, NIU’s own Avalon String Quartet, adjunct professor of harp at both NIU and Wheaton College Faye Seeman, NIU master of music student and winner of the 2026 classical voice category at NATS Daniel Chukwunyem, and the NIU Steelpan Studio.

The recital will feature world premieres of compositions from film composer Jermaine Stegall, a 2000 graduate of the NIU School of Music, and composer and steel pannist Jonathan Scales.

Tickets for the recital are available online at go.niu.edu/arts-events. NIU students are admitted free of charge with reserved ticket.
