A project in the NIU School of Theatre and Dance developed by students in the Master of Fine Arts Design and Technology program, with the mentorship of Professors Sahin Sahinoglu and Alex Gelman has been selected for inclusion in the United States Emerging Exhibit at the Prague Quadrennial (PQ) in 2027.

The design submission for Conversations About the End included a film trailer which featured School of Theatre and Dance Director Roxanna Conner and faculty member Bethany Mangum-Oles as actors, and was chosen to be part of the US representation for PQ, the largest international event in the field of scenography, performance design and performance space.

There is a crowd funding opportunity to support the project.

Graduate design and technology students at the NIU School of Theatre and Dance have created a silent short film completely from scratch with no budget. The goal was to capture the absurdist American experience while tapping into humanity’s innate need to create. They now have the opportunity to represent NIU and the States at the Prague Quadrennial, dubbed the “Olympics of theatrical design,” this summer. The exhibit will also travel to Wayne State College and the United States Institute for Theatre Technology.

We need your help to share our art with the rest of the world! Your donations will fund:

  • Artist travel expenses
  • Costs of production materials
  • Admission to the PQ!

PQ was founded in 1967 and has been held every four years without interruption, and is organized by the Czech Cultural Institute.

The graduate students involved in the project, and who will be traveling to Czech Republic next year along with the faculty are Bridget Kearbey, Drew Bagby, Luigi Locascio, Emery Foster, Christopher Christ, Kylee Galarneau and Akaya Chambers.
