A stroll around campus can serve as a preview of a new exhibition coming soon to the galleries of the NIU Art Museum.

The Olmec Heads Experience is a traveling exhibition of twenty-five monumental, artist-designed sculptures inspired by the colossal stone “heads” created by the Olmec civilization of Mesoamerica from 1200 BC to 400 AD.

The museum exhibition will run from Wednesday, September 16 through the end of the fall semester in the south galleries of the NIU Art Museum, located on the first floor of Altgeld Hall. There is no charge for admission.

In addition to the heads that will be on display in the museum, there are a number that have been installed on the main campus. Locations include the north and south entrances of Jack Arends Hall, home of the NIU School of Art and Design, near the fountains to the east of Davis Hall, between the entrances of Still Hall and Altgeld Hall (near the Olive Goyle statue), between Altgeld Hall and Sven Parson Hall, and near the north entrance of Founders Memorial Library (on the MLK Commons side).
