Maria Kurochkina, assistant professor of music and director of orchestras was recently profiled by Northern Public Radio, WNIU/WNIJ. Kurochkina joined the NIU School of Music faculty in August after earning her D.M.A. in orchestral conducting from Boston University. A native of Russia, Kurochkina talked about her interest in music developing as a child, the difficulties of pursing that interest as a female in Russia and other obstacles that slowed, but never stopped her from achieving her goals.
