Gibson Cima, assistant professor of theatre history and head of the bachelor of arts in theatre studies program in the NIU School of Theatre and Dance was honored by the American Society for Theatre Research with the David Keller Travel Award.
The award is in honor of the late David Mathias Keller who taught at City University of New York’s Kingsborough Community College and at Cornell University, and served as the treasurer or ASTR for many years.
Cima also delivered a plenary address at the conference, titled “Hope Machines: New Protest Theatre by Born Free South Africans” and co-convened the working session, “Historiographies of Hope.” More than 140 applications were received for just 24 plenary address spots.
