NORTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS

Percussion camp 2018Registration is open for NIU Percussion Camp, as part of our annual Summer in the Arts at Northern series.  The College of Visual and Performing Arts invites middle and high school students to explore the amazing world of percussion this summer.

Hands-on camp activities include snare drum, timpani, drum set and keyboard percussion classes.  Campers rehearse in Steel Band, concert percussion ensembles, and samba bands, and enjoy a faculty recital.  Percussion Camp concludes with a final all-camp concert performance for family and friends in NIU’s Boutell Memorial Concert Hall.

Participants work with NIU percussion instructor Ben Wahlund, NIU professor and Fulbright Award recipient Greg Beyer, NIU Steelband co-director Yuko Asada, DeKalb High School director of bands Steve Lundin, and several other professional educators and percussionists during this intensive camp.

NIU Percussion Camp takes place July 22 – 26.  The residential camp fee includes on-campus lodging and meals, a camp t-shirt, masterclasses, and all camp activities, and a reduced-price commuter option is also offered.  Registration is first-come, first-served, with camp deposits due by June 26.
