“The Power of Place” a new photography exhibition by Jayla Trenyce is open now through December 20 at DeKalb’s Ellwood House Museum. Trenyce earned her MFA in Fine and Studio Arts from the NIU School of Art and Design in 2025.

“The Power of Place” xplores how physical locations hold deep meaning, carrying traces of historical events and family memories. Trenyce’s works focus on DeKalb’s Pleasant Street and Sycamore’s North Avenue neighborhoods, which she documents through a series of ten photographs.

Ellwood House Museum is located at 420 Linden Place in DeKalb.

The exhibition was made possible by support from Arts in Action. Arts in Action is funded by a grant from Healing Illinois. Healing Illinois is funded by the Illinois Department of Human Services in partnership with The Field Foundation of Illinois.
