Scott Metlicka, a 1993 graduate of NIU, has returned to his alma mater to join the faculty of the School of Music to teach flute.

Scott MetlickaMetlicka is an accomplished performer and educator with prior teaching experience at NIU. In 2010 he served as a sabbatical replacement in the School of Music. He is currently an adjunct faculty member at Elgin Community College. He has taught at DePaul University, Columbia College, Sherwood Conservatory of Music, and since 1993, has operated his own private teaching studio.

His extensive performing experience includes permanent positions with Skylight Music Theater (Milwaukee), Wisconsin Philharmonic Orchestra, South Bend Symphony Orchestra, Rockford Symphony Orchestra and the Elgin Symphony Orchestra. He has also held positions with the Pine Mountain Music Festival (Michigan), Illinois Symphony Orchestra, and the Illinois Chamber Symphony. He plays as a substitute / extra musician with Chicago’s Grant Park Symphony, Chicago Opera Theater, Chicago Philharmonic, Madison Symphony, Dubuque Symphony, and the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra.

He served as president of the Chicago Flute Club, board member of Chamber Music on the Fox, and is a piano accompanist for flute players.

Metlicka is a member of the American Federation of Musicians Local 10-208, National Flute Association, Chicago Flute Club and the Society of American Musicians.
