NORTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS

As NIU and the world around us deals with a global pandemic, artists continue to find ways to express themselves. In the College of Visual and Performing arts the learning and teaching hasn’t stopped, it’s simply evolved to meet the needs and limitations of the situation. Over the coming days, we’ll be featuring how NIU students, alumni and faculty in the arts are continuing to do what they love.

The NIU Thai Music Ensemble had been invited to perform with the Thai Music Ensemble from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) on May 14 in the main auditorium of the Herb Alpert School of Music at UCLA. The event was cancelled due to the Coronavirus, but, recently the ensembles performed together online.

“With the dedication and determination of the two ensemble directors, Supeena Insee Adler (UCLA) and Chamni Sripraram, we managed to make it work,” Jui-Ching Wang, associate professor of world music at NIU said. “We proudly present this collaboration, “Lao Joy” with also features special guests from Korphai Band from Thailand.”
