The Jack Olson Gallery at Northern Illinois University presents two solo exhibitions; UNTILED (Simple Acts) by Carlos Melian and Material Alchemy: Cobbling with Clay and Found Materials by Gina Lee Robbins, Thursday, March 7 through April 18 (the gallery is closed March 9-17 for NIU spring break). An opening reception and artist talks are scheduled March 7 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 pm.

The genesis for each work in Carlos Melian’s UNTITLED (Simple Acts) is the simple act of creating an abstract image based on recognizable forms, dividing basic geometric shapes, or extending a painting beyond its traditional boundaries.

Robbins - Family ValuesGina Lee Robbins’ Material Alchemy: Cobbling with Clay and Found Materials, is comprised of ceramic wall installations and free standing sculpture that incorporate found artifacts from both the built and natural worlds.
