School of Music hosts Winter Horn Fest, Feb. 2

The Northern Illinois School of Music presents the 2018 Winter Horn Fest Friday, February 2, in the Music Building on the main campus.  This day-long event offers programming focused on high school horn players and will address challenges, issues, and concerns that are specific to intermediate horn players.  The event features the Alloy Horn Quartet in masterclass and recital. Life drawing is the study of the human figure through exercises in contour, modeling and gesture drawing in a variety of media.  Northern Illinois University is seeking male and female models to pose nude for Spring 2018 life drawing classes.  Classes are held Mondays and Wednesdays and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. (more…)

Margaret O’Malley wins CSA Sinfonia Concerto Competition

Margaret O'MalleyViolinist and violist Margaret O’Malley of Glen Ellyn, Ill., is this year’s winner of the Northern Illinois University Community School of the Arts Sinfonia Concerto Competition.  Margaret won the competition at NIU for her audition of the first movement of the Violin Concerto No. 3 in b minor by Camille Saint-Saëns.  She receives a cash award and will return to DeKalb to perform the concerto with CSA Sinfonia, directed by Linc Smelser, at the May 2018 concert in NIU’s Boutell Memorial Concert Hall. NIU Art Museum’s biennial NIU School of Art and Design Faculty Exhibition opens Nov. 16

DeKalb, Ill. — The Northern Illinois University Art Museum opens the biennial School of Art and Design Faculty Exhibition on Thursday, November 16, 2017 with a public reception from 5 – 7 p.m. Presented every two years, this invitational show features recent artwork and scholarship by current faculty and teaching staff from all divisions of the NIU School of Art and Design and highlights the artistry, research, and instruction found at NIU. The exhibition runs through December 16, 2017 and reopens January 16 through February 23, 2018. (more…)
