Bio
Laura Snowden
Described by Acoustic Guitar Magazine as possessing ‘‘multi-dimensional gifts, imagination and fearless artistic sensibility”, Laura’s eclectic musical output has ranged from playing guitar solos on Lorne Balfe’s soundtrack for Marvel film Black Widow to performing Lisa Streich’s guitar concerto with the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
Laura studied with Julian Bream, during which time she gave two concerts at Wigmore Hall featuring premieres of his newest commissions. This led to international recognition and festival debuts across Europe and the US, as well as a concerto recording with Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. She has since gone on to forge her own creative and authentic path as a guitarist, composer and vocalist. Her eclectic repertoire comprises classical, folk and contemporary music, with storytelling at its heart; her solo programmes feature her fresh interpretations of classical works alongside her own evocative compositions, unique vocalisations and Celtic folk arrangements.
As a composer, Laura’s music has been commissioned by Birmingham Symphony Hall, International Guitar Foundation, New York Guitar Festival, Rockschool syllabus and ABRSM syllabus, and has received multiple broadcasts on BBC Radio 3. Her work has been recorded for BGS Records, Deux-Elles, Rubicon Classics and Centaur Records, and published by ABRSM, London College of Music and Hal Leonard. As a songwriter and performer with folk group Tir Eolas, her shows with the band have included Cambridge Folk Festival, Bestival, and Shakespeare’s Globe at the invitation of guitarist John Williams.
Laura’s collaborations have included recording for the English film director and musician Sally Potter, playing on the Puss in Boots soundtrack, recording a new work for voice and guitar by Josephine Stephenson on the debut album from soprano Héloïse Werner, and collaborations with movement director Roanna Mitchell and actor/director Gretchen Egolf. She has also created and recorded guitar arrangements for Noah and the Whale frontman Charlie Fink’s album Cover My Tracks.
Laura’s international concert appearances have included the Guitar Foundation of America, New York Classical Guitar Society, Long Island Guitar Festival, Uppsala International Guitar Festival, Altamira Hong Kong International Guitar Symposium and San Francisco Performances. She has given classes at the Royal College of Music, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Birmingham Conservatoire, Yale University, the Purcell School, Brussels Conservatoire, San Francisco Conservatory, Mannes School of Music and Manhattan School of Music. She studied at the Royal College of Music, plays a guitar made by Christopher Dean, and is a D’Addario Artist.
