欢乐的新疆 (Merrily Xinjiang) - Zhou Deming

Composed by Zhou Deming, this piece pays tribute to the lively music of Uygher communities in the Xinjiang province of western China. The vigorous rhythm evokes colorful scenes of communal celebration in Xinjiang, while the lyrical section conjures an intense sentimentality. The piece contains harmonies and gestures reminiscent of Central Asian and Eastern European melodies, revealing the porousness of music cultures that spanned the Silk Road.
