World-renowned violinist Shmuel Ashkenasi will perform with Camerata Chicago, April 6 and 7, and NIU Students can attend either performance at a 40% discount.
Shumuel, Camerata Chicago’s artistic advisor, is the former first chair of NIU’s famous Vermeer Quartet. He will perform the famous Mendelssohn Violin Concerto. Principal oboe Amy Barwan will perform a piece by Chicago composer Gregory Hutter called “Still Life” for oboe and string orchestra, and Camerata Chicago will perform Beethoven Symphony No. 1.
NIU Professor of Violin Matthias Tacke is Concert Master of Camerata Chicago, which boasts NIU School of Music alumni Michael McGuan, Ann Montzka, Talia Pavia and Alin Cernaianu among its performers.
Tickets for both performances (Friday, April 6 at Chicago Fourth Church at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, April 7 at Wheaton College Church at 3 p.m.) are available at 40% off by using the code NIUSM. Regular price for student tickets is $10.
