Program Management
- Supervise all undergraduate and graduate degree programs
- Supervise ~ 200 public visual and performing arts programs and events
- Work with senior administration on public/private initiatives, including Argonne National Laboratories, City of DeKalb, NU/Kishwaukee Hospital, Egyptian Theatre, Luminarts Foundation, Arts Alliance of Illinois, Ingenuity
Strategic Planning
- Lead analysis of programs, facilities, internal and external constituencies
- Collaborate with CVPA Senate, College Council and faculty on devising and implementation
Personnel
- Supervise Dean’s staff— Associate Dean, Director of Marketing and Communication, Assistant to the Dean for Business Administration, Assistant to the Dean for Marketing, Communication and Special Events, Dean’s Office Assistant
- Hire and retain faculty and staff
- Evaluate faculty and staff for re-appointment, tenure and promotion
- Review and recommend to provost sabbatical/pre-tenure leaves/creative-scholarly research grant proposals, Provost and Presidential Excellence Awards, Honorary Degree awards
- Manage and allocate financial resources for faculty professional development, research, artistry, conference travel
Financial
- Prepare and submit personnel and operating budget to VP for Academic Affairs (with Assistant to the Dean)
- Oversee management of College accounts
- Prioritize and approve supplemental annual budget requests
Development and Alumni Relations
- Work with VP for Advancement and CVPA Director of Development to coordinate fund-raising efforts
- Work with Director of Development and school directors on Foundation accounts management
- Devise strategies with various partners for developing alumni relations and fund-raising opportunities
Program Assessment and Accreditation
- Higher Learning Commission
- National Association of Schools of Art and Design, Schools of Music, Schools of Theatre, Schools of Dance
- Program Prioritization—Lead review and response activities, manage implementation
Facilities
- Manage all leases relevant to College programs, including gallery and studio spaces
- Music Building (Boutell Concert Hall, Recital Hall), Jack Arends Art Building, Stevens (O’Connell Theatre, Blackbox Theatre, Sally Stevens Theatre and Corner Theatres), Gable Hall (dance studios)
- Review and prioritize facilities improvement, maintenance, and equipment requests
Curriculum and Assessment
- Assist with the development of new courses and programs, especially cross-disciplinary initiatives
- Review all curriculum proposals for new and revised programs and courses
- Review all catalogue changes and revisions
- Coordinated General Education course assessment, program assessment within departments and programs, and accreditation reviews; documented art-making process and student learning through video of classroom projects; worked with dean to capture learning evidence; presented findings at conferences
Schedule, Curriculum, and Enrollment Management
- Clarify policies and goals for course management, maintain ongoing communication with directors around preparing and submitting course schedules
- Review enrollments and, consultation with directors and VP for EMMC, develop solutions for recruiting and retention
- Work with Diversity Officer, Assoc. Provost, school directors on equity and inclusion analysis and actions
Student Services
- Review and resolve student problems in collaboration with Associate Dean, school directors, and faculty
- Facilitate and chair Student Advisory Committee to the college
- Work with broad set of student organizations, including Student Association, on arts- and college-related matters
