NORTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS

The Northern Illinois University School of Art and Design is accepting entries for its annual Community College Student and Faculty Invitational Exhibition. The exhibition will run from January 15, 2023 through February 4, 2023. The student exhibition will be held virtually and the faculty exhibition will be displayed in the Jerry and Annette Johns Art Gallery in Jack Arends Hall on NIU’s main campus.

The entry deadline is January 8. Art students and faculty submitting artwork must be from an Illinois community college. All media will be accepted including design, photography, new media and traditional 2D and 3D artwork. Faculty artwork must be ready to hang or display.

John Siblik, associate professor of art and coordinator of the B.A. and B.S. in art programs, is the contact for the show and he says the exhibition is designed to showcase the work of community college students and faculty while also increasing awareness of the School of Art and Design. “We devised the show to promote NIU’s art program to prospective transfers, and to provide a networking opportunity for education professions from NIU and Illinois community colleges,” Siblik said. “Community college art students and faculty from across Illinois are invited to submit artwork for the event. Works will be accepted on a first-come first-serve basis until maximum capacity for the exhibition is reached.

The student exhibition will be juried, and there is a virtual student reception scheduled for Wednesday, February 1 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

An in-person reception for both students and faculty will be held Thursday, February 2 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Annette and Jerry Johns Art Gallery at NIU.

More information on the exhibition and how to enter can be found at go.niu.edu/art-exhibitions, and any questions about the event can be sent to Siblik at art-exhibitions@niu.edu or (815) 753-5223.
