The NIU School of Music presents the eighth NIU New Music Festival, November 5-8, featuring five concerts over four nights.
The event brings together NIU students and faculty performers along with renowned performers like:
- Libby Larsen, one of America’s most prolific and performed composers
- Erin Gee, accomplished composer and vocalist, in-demand at home and abroad
- Ensemble Dal Niente, performs new and experimental chamber music with dedication, virtuosity, and an exploratory spirit
- Fifth House Ensemble, Chicago-based group that harnesses the collaborative spirit of chamber music to reach beyond the traditionally-perceived limits of classical music
- Avalon String Quartet, world-renowned ensemble in residence in the NIU School of Music
- Matt Ulery, Chicago based bassist/composer and bandleader who has developed an instantly recognizable sound
- Projeto Arcomusical, a world music sextet reimagining the Afro-Brazilian berimbau through unique and powerful chamber music made up of NIU School of Music alumni and faculty
- Abby Fisher, percussionist focused on performing and supporting continued growth of new music, and has expertise in contemporary, classical, and African (Ewe) percussion
