Experience firsthand the talents of students in the Northern Illinois University College of Visual and Performing Arts at the second annual Convocation, January 22 at 4:30 p.m. The free event brings together student artists and performers from the NIU schools of art and design, music and theatre and dance. This year’s Convocation will be held in the NIU Music Building’s Boutell Memorial Concert Hall.
The approximately 90-minute show will feature performances by the NIU Steelband, a voice and piano performance and the JTJ Percussion Trio. Scenes will be performed from two recent NIU School of Theatre productions, “The Watson Intelligence” and “Blue Stockings.” Two performances by students in the NIU Dance program will also be featured.
Gallery works from students in the School of Art and Design will be displayed in the lobby, and videos from studio arts, art history, art education and design will be a highlighted part of the program.
As part of the program, Dana Arnett, an alum of the School of Art and Design, and the Founding Partner and Vice Chairman of VSA Partners will be honored. Arnett has a 30-year career steeped in design leadership, business and brand consulting and policymaking. His firm creates digital and interactive initiatives for a diverse client base that includes Harley-Davidson, Toyota, IBM, General Electric, Nike, Anheuser Busch and Google.
