Lisa Hochtritt, visiting professor of art and art education at Teachers College, Columbia University, will present a guest lecture, “Social Justice in Art Education,” Tuesday, October 29 at 5 p.m. in Jack Arends Building Room 102 at the NIU School of Art and Design. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Hochtritt will discuss strategies for fostering critical conversations about race, gender and belonging in educational spaces. Here talk draws from her work rooted in anti-racist and social justice art education.
She is a co-author of the book, “Cultivating Cultural Conversations in Art Education.”
Before joining Teachers College, Columbia University, Hochtritt was director of the master of arts in teaching (MAT) program at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. And prior to this, she was associate professor in the art and visual culture education program at the University of Arizona in Tucson; chair of art education at Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design in Denver; and assistant professor and director, MAT Program, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Hochtritt received her Ed.D. from Teachers College, Columbia University, her M.A. in Creativity and Arts Education from San Francisco State University, and her teaching credential in Art (PK-12) from the State of California.
