Ron CarterRon Carter, the world-famous former director of Jazz Studies at NIU will be awarded The Midwest Clinic Medal of Honor, Wednesday, December 21 at McCormick Place Convention Center during this year’s Midwest Clinic. It is the world’s largest instrumental music education conference.

Carter directed the NIU Jazz Ensemble and the Jazz Studies program at NIU for 20 years. During his time at NIU he helped grow and diversify the Jazz Studies program and helped it earn its ranking as one of the top 10 graduate programs in jazz by US News and World Report.  He led a European tour of the NIU Jazz Ensemble in 2004.

The Midwest Clinic Medal of Honor is awarded to conductors, educators, composers and others whose distinct services to instrumental education and continuing influence on the development of bands and orchestras deserves the highest recognition. Carter is one of just over 100 individuals who have received the honor over its 75 year history.

Carter will be presented the medal at a ceremony, Wednesday, December 21 at 4:15 p.m. in room W190 at McCormick Place Convention Center.
