Your wait for live music to enjoy from the NIU School of Music is over. Join the NIU Steelpan Studio and NIU Percussion Studio and friends as they present an online Welcome Back concert, Tuesday, September 1, live streamed on the NIU School of Music website.
The concert features Liam Teague (professor of music and head of Steelpan Studies), Gregory Beyer (professor of music and director of percussion studies), Yuko Asada (musical instrument technician, director of the Community School of the Arts Steelband and assistant with the NIU Steelband), Ben Wahlund (percussion instructor), Rodrigo Villanueva (professor of jazz studies), and Robert Chappell (distinguished teaching professor and professor emeritus) with special guests Bradley Stirtz (vibraphone) and Wesley Morgan (bass).
The online concert will be broadcast live from the stage of the Boutell Memorial Concert Hall in the NIU Music Building, and feature new works composed this summer. The performance will also serve as an example to NIU music students as to how to plan recitals that use appropriately socially distanced protocols.
