The 2019-2020 NIU School of Theatre and Dance’s Studio Series kicks off, Thursday, September 13, with a new, developmental production.
It is a new and moving work by playwright Caridad Svich titled, Something, Like Happiness.
The description of the work on The New Play Exchange was, “It’s like this. It’s about love. And other things. Like, how we live. And mess ourselves and each other up. It’s about art and science and the plans we make for our future, which we may never get to see. It’s the stuff of comedy. And tragedy too. And yeah, a bit of heartbreak. But mostly, it’s why we keep doing what we do in this little game called life.”
Something, Like Happiness was a semi-finalist in the 2019-2020 In-Progress New Play Reading Series at Unicorn Theatre in Kansas City.
The production will run over two weekends in the Corner Theatre in NIU’s Stevens Building, with 7:30 p.m. performances September 13-14 and September 19-21, and a 2 p.m. matinee Sunday, September 15.
