The School of Theatre and Dance at NIU presents The Marriage of Bette and Boo with performances nightly at 7:30 p.m. from Wednesday, November 28 through Saturday, December 1, and 2 p.m. matinees on Saturday, December 1 and Sunday, December 2.
The Marriage of Bette and Boo is a scintillating comedy that takes a satirical look at marriage and family in contemporary America. The play opens as Bette and Boo are joined in joyous matrimony. As their lives progress, they realize maybe marriage isn’t all they had hoped it would be. Their families are both rife with oddballs, the birth of their son is followed by a succession of stillborns, and Boo takes up heavy drinking. Finding humor in the darkest of life’s horrors, the play brilliantly weaves through three decades of divorce, alcoholism, madness, and fatal illness.
