NIU’s award-winning Avalon String Quartet is performing at Lakeside Arts Park at the Dole, March 11 at 3 p.m. The concert is part of the NIU School of Music Showcase and Guest Performance Series, a series of concerts by NIU groups at Lakeside Arts Park.
Tickets for the performance, which will be held in Lakeside Arts Park’s “Listening Room” are available for $8. Online ticket sales end at noon, March 9.
The Avalon is quartet-in-residence at the Northern Illinois University School of Music, a position formerly held by the Vermeer Quartet.
Described by the Chicago Tribune as “an ensemble that invites you — ears, mind, and spirit — into its music,” the Avalon String Quartet has established itself as one of the country’s leading chamber music ensembles. The Avalon has performed in major venues including Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, the 92nd St Y, Merkin Hall, and Bargemusic in New York; the Library of Congress and National Gallery of Art in Washington DC; Wigmore Hall in London; and Herculessaal in Munich.

The Avalon will also perform April 26 at 8 p.m. in the Recital Hall in the Music Building on NIU’s main campus in DeKalb.
