The world-famous NIU Steelband’s 2018 Spring Concert is Sunday, April 22, at 3 p.m., featuring an eclectic blend of music styles, and a special guest artist.

The NIU Steelband, under the direction of NIU Professor of Music and Director of Steelpan Studies Liam Teague, and assisted by the School of Music’s Yuko Asada, will be joined by steelpan virtuoso Victor Provost.

Provost is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading voices on the steelpan.  He is an adjunct professor of music at George Mason University and conducts residencies and master classes throughout the United States and the Carribbean.  In addition to leading his own group, Provost tours with NEA Jazz Master Paquito D’Rivera, is a member of the Grammy award-winning Afro Bop Alliance, and works with several of the mid-Atlantic region’s most lauded musical collectives.

Admission to the NIU Steelband 2018 Spring Concert is free, Sunday, April 22 at 3 p.m. in the Boutell Memorial Concert Hall in the Music Building on the NIU main campus in DeKalb.
