NORTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS

The City of DeKalb will host the annual Artigras celebration, Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5.

The two-day event features an ‘art tasting,’ numerous art exhibitions by students of the NIU School of Art and Design, a variety show at the Egyptian Theatre and a grand finale concert by the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra.

5 – 8 p.m. – The Art of Tasting — Various DeKalb Merchants — Enjoy an evening of strolling through downtown DeKalb enjoying art while tasting new foods and libations. 5 – 8 p.m. – “Art, Oh My” Drawing Seniors Exhibition Opening — “Mixed Media Art” at the House Cafe, 263 East Lincoln Highway, downtown DeKalb

5 – 8 p.m. – NIU Student Art Sale, BFA Student Art Exhibition at Gallery 215, 215 Fourth Street, downtown DeKalb
The  Gallery Art Shop will  be open for business and student work, ceramics, sculpture, painting, prints and more will be for sale. Featured NIU student artist, Ping Syvon. Exhibition space open to the public for viewing.

5 – 8 p.m. – Unpacked – Mobile Gallery, 135 North Second Street, downtown DeKalb
“Everybody wants a south facing window,” Lauren Iacoponi, MFA Thesis Exhibition, parking lot across from Egyptian Theatre

5 – 8 p.m. – NIU Senior BA Exhibition, 230 East Lincoln Highway, downtown DeKalb
NIU graduating BA/BS student show open to the public

8 – 10 p.m. – Variety Show at the Egyptian Theatre, 125 North Second Street, downtown DeKalb
Judging will be by audience members for prize awards in music, dance and performance.

Artigras continues on Saturday, May 5, starting with NIU School of Art and Design undergraduate and senior student art exhibitions openings on campus as well as in two downtown locations.  The Olson and 214 Galleries in the Art Building on the NIU campus will be open between 3 to 8 p.m. to all wishing to visit and view the exhibitions.  The Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra will conclude our spring celebration with a beautiful performance of Bach!
